Real Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe rests on crucial Monday decision

It's still possible

Kylian Mbappe could well be a Real Madrid player come the end of the month.

The La Liga giants’ chances of signing the French prodigy will become a lot clearer on Monday as that is when Uefa will deliver the findings of their Financial Fair Play investigation into Paris Saint-Germain, according to a report from Spanish publication AS.

European football’s governing body has been looking into PSG’s recent spending, particularly the acquisition of both Mbappe and Neymar last summer.

Neymar cost the the Ligue 1 powerhouses €222 million last August before Mbappe joined on loan later that month.

The structure of Mbappe’s move has been the main subject of Uefa’s investigation, however, and the deadline for PSG’s full €180 million payment for the 19-year-old is now here.

If Uefa find that PSG breached FFP regulations then the club may be forced to offload some players in order to balance the books.

Real Madrid will hope that the findings will make Mbappe a realistic option before the transfer deadline for Spanish clubs closes next Friday.

Following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus last month, Los Blancos have yet to replace the Portuguese superstar and the No. 7 shirt remains vacant at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It remains entirely possible that Real’s summer spending is complete but if Mbappe is made available after Uefa’s verdict, then we could be in for an interesting close to the window.
