From Liverpool, they are even more expensive - with one way tickets costing up to £800.
Those return flights involve some self-transfers along the way, and may also see you leaving Madrid very early the next morning after absolutely zero seconds sleep, but if you can get the return flights for the same price as one way then you may as well give it a go.
Alternatively you could just go to Liverpool for the atmosphere in the city itself, but that's going to cost you a fair bit too!
