Liverpool’s surprise win over Barcelona on Tuesday sent parts of Merseyside into waves of jubilation, and it likely had airline operators absolutely buzzing as well.

Divock Origi’s goals book-ended the 4-0 win over the Catalans, during which Gini Wijnaldum was also heroic. And now Liverpool are heading to their second straight Champions League final.

The final this year will be held at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium on June 1, and Liverpool’s victory on Wednesday night now means that weekend return flights to the Spanish capital from Dublin, have now increased to around €500 with Ryanair.

From Liverpool, they are even more expensive – with one way tickets costing up to £800.

Those return flights involve some self-transfers along the way, and may also see you leaving Madrid very early the next morning after absolutely zero seconds sleep, but if you can get the return flights for the same price as one way then you may as well give it a go.

Alternatively you could just go to Liverpool for the atmosphere in the city itself, but that’s going to cost you a fair bit too!
