“He’s like a pressing monster.”
Liverpool’s assistant manager Pep Lijnders has praised the impact of the club’s new signing, Diogo Jota, who joined last week from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Portuguese international joined the Reds on a deal worth £41 million that could rise to £45m, and he may be in line for his debut on Thursday night, when Liverpool face Lincoln in the Carabao Cup.
Speaking ahead of that game, Jurgen Klopp’s assistant waxed lyrical about the 23-year-old’s impact in his so far short time at the club.
“Diogo, what can I say? His technical level is on the same as our front three,” Lijnders said in an interview with Liverpool’s website.
“He has so much future in the game and he will have a great pathway inside our club. He’s like a pressing monster, so he will fit in straight away.
“We played against each other when he was very young. In Portugal, they all say what a great signing Liverpool made, because they know exactly how he is and what kind of potential he still has.
“He will fit into our style. We are happy with him, and all the things we heard are true. He is a very professional, passionate, dedicated, brave player.”
