VIDEO: Portland Timbers win their first ever MLS Cup

History

A two-goal burst in the opening 10 minutes was decisive for the Portland Timbers, who last night won their maiden MLS Cup.

Early strikes from Diego Valeri and Rodney Wallace – the former after a blunder from opposing goalkeeper Steve Clark – were enough for them to beat Columbus Crew SC.

Kei Kamara pulled one back for the Crew, but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

It’s an incredible achievement from Portland, who were the width of a post from going out of the playoffs against Sporting Kansas City in an earlier round.
