Poll: Who’s in more trouble, Brendan Rodgers or Arsene Wenger?

Pressure growing on Arsenal and Liverpool managers

Conan Doherty

Is it time for Arsene Wenger or Brendan Rodgers to pack up and leave?

Is it time for both of them to go?

Is it time for any of them?

Brendan Rodgers, dare say it, is the victim of his own success.  Before he sprang from nowhere last term and incredulously made Liverpool dream (sorry) with a daring title assault, they had managed to break into the top six just once in the four seasons previous.  Now, just five months after losing one of the world’s best players, just 12 games into a new season after he had steered the ‘Pool through their second best ever Premier League campaign, guided them to their third ever second-place finish, fans are calling for Rodgers’ head.

Why?  Because he isn’t replicating the same overachieving performance he masterminded last term.

Just look at Paul Lambert.  After dragging Villa up to the dizzy heights of 15th, he’s now favourite to go because they’re languishing perilously in 17th place, one point above the danger zone.  He’s created false expectation around the club and now he’s paying for it.

If Liverpool were to sack Rodgers in the infancy of his third season, they’d scare off any potential suitor for the position anyway.  Who would want the job after a man who took them from relative obscurity into genuine title contenders and back into the Champions League was kicked out on his ear because of panicked mob mentality?

Arsene’s a different story.

He’s like the doting prince who came in and swept Arsenal fans off of their feet.  He was easy to fall in love with.  The marriage started well, brilliantly; he fulfilled his promises of happiness but, lately – for a long while – you’ve noticed he’s more inattentive.  He’s not as passion-filled as he was, he’s not giving his whole self to the marriage.  You have a choice: do you stick with him, safe, reliable, and comfortable.  Or do you deserve more?  Do you deserve that spark again?  Do you deserve love?

It isn’t a rash decision, he has been given more than enough chances to clean up his act but, ever since he proudly reclaimed the FA Cup in the same fashion of a lazy husband spectacularly doing the bed sheets and thinking that will tide him over for another five years, he’s fallen back into his old habits and you know he won’t change.

Get rid of him.  It was good while it lasted but it’s over now.  You know it is.  You deserve more than this.

Ladbrokes have priced Brendan Rodgers at 6/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post whereas, unfortunately for frustrated Arsenal fans, they have Arsene Wenger way out at 33/1.

So, who do you reckon is in more trouble?
