Records are made to be broken.

And Ruud van Nistelrooy was more than happy to hand the baton over to Jamie Vardy after the Leicester striker broke his record for goals scored in consecutive Premier League games.

Vardy bested Van Nistelrooy’s 10 when he scored his 11th in a row with a first-half strike against Manchester United at the King Power stadium.

Van Nistelrooy, who scored his 10th against Newcastle in 2003, took to Instagram to congratulate the young English forward and say: “You’re number one now and you deserved it.”
