Per Mertesacker is called a ‘rhinoceros’ by Wojciech Szczesny’s dad

But we thought rhino's were meant to be aggressive and fearsome

If we had to come up with an animal that would adequately describe Per Mertesacker this wouldn’t be top of our list

When your parents have to come out and defend you then things are pretty bad.

Well Wojciech SzczÄ™sny’s dad has come out with an absolute classic in trying to absolve his son from any blame for Arsenal’s ropey at best defense this season.

Former goalkeeper Maciej Szczesny feels that German international Per Mertersacker is to blame for the club’s terrible defensive displays, rather than his son.

In an interview with a newspaper in his native Poland, the former Legia Warsaw goalkeeper has aimed a rhino sized gun at the poor centre-half, especially after the loss to Southampton last week.

The former Poland international feels his son can’t be blamed for conceding the opening goal and instead the two men in front of him deserve the criticism.

Laurent Koscielny should immediately have run [back] to protect Wojciech, and Per Mertesacker should have stood in the goal,’ he said.

‘Unfortunately they did not do that and gave him zero support, and in that situation Mertesacker showed the agility of a rhinoceros.’

Well he certainly does paint quite a picture with that image.

Szczesny Jnr hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory over the last few days with allegations that he was caught smoking in the toilets after the loss to Ronald Koeman’s side.

But Maciej doesn’t agree with the reports that his son was fined €25,000 for the cheeky ciggie,

‘What the British papers wrote about my son smoking under the shower after Southampton game, this is bollocks. It doesn’t surprise me as they are known for making stuff up. I have heard Wojciech smokes sometimes but he’s not that stupid to smoke in the dressing room.’

How do you even smoke in the shower anyway.

The interview should make for some rather interesting moments at Arsenal training as well as on the pitch the next time a goal goes in.
