But players have a lot of time to fill when they're not on the training pitch or at a game. Previously, players would have played cards, pool, table tennis etc. during their downtime. Nowadays, it's not uncommon that players will bring a games console in a case with a portable screen so they can play Fortnite and the like in their hotel rooms.

Some players have a more sophisticated taste in gaming though, like French wonderkid Ousmane Dembele, who has been spending his free time in Russia playing Football Manager.

His choice of team may come as a surprise, but as Football Manager enthusiasts will know, there is no greater feeling of satisfaction than taking a team of minnows from the bottom to worldwide domination.

One thing Dembele may struggle with, however, is achieving his goal of creating a South American atmosphere in Winchester might be a tad unrealistic. You can't accuse him of being unambitious though.
