Brazilian police have arrested a man after posing as Neymar to trick women into sending him intimate images and videos.
According to reports, 30-year-old Carlos Antonio Rodrigues has been detained in the state of Minas Gerais with police also searching for another man that is believed to be involved.
The pair are said to have extorted their victims after promising them places on reality TV shows and modelling photo shoots for some of Brazil’s most high profile magazines.
According to the Mirror, Rodrigues posed as a professional photographer on Brazilian social media platforms and introduced the women to a series of profiles that appeared to belong to a number of famous personalities from the country – one of which being Neymar.
One of the victims explained to Globo that she was invited to a party with Neymar in Barcelona and was given assurances that she would be given fast-track papers for herself and a friend to get into Spain.
Having agreed to speak with the man she mistakenly believed to be Neymar on video link, she was then asked to undress in front of the camera.
“At first I said no, then I went down to just some little panties and a bra. I really thought that would be it.
“Then we got a little dazed and…”
The video of the women was then used to blackmail them, before Brazil’s cyber-police (DRCI) were alerted to the situation.
Traced back to an internet cafe, Rodrigues was arrested.
