Neville “would question” his appointment if he was still a pundit

Gary Neville has admitted he would question the appointment of an unproven manager like himself at Valencia if he was still working as a pundit.

However the new boss of the La Liga side is confident that he can get the results required to show that he is more than up to the task. Neville has been handed an initial six-month contract to manage Los Che, where brother Phil will stay on as an assitant coach, and admits that the only way to earn respect is with results on the pitch. "I would question it as a neutral observer...and want to be proven otherwise," Neville said at his unveiling. "Anybody who has any reservations or concerns, those will only be removed by winning football matches," he added. "We’ve all seen inexperienced coaches succeed and experienced coaches fail," he continued. "I accept I need to prove myself and turn the doubters. I understand why you want to ask these questions and I have to provide the answers on the football pitch in the coming months." Neville noted that he would "not insult Valencia football club" by coming in and promising to play football like Sir Alex Ferguson's Man United squad, of which he was a part. The Englishman will take over after the upcoming La Liga game against Barcelona, and noted he felt preparation for the fixture needed to remain consistent.
