Michael Owen leaves big name out of his combined Liverpool and Manchester United XI

A notable absentee

Ben Kenyon

Michael Owen hasn’t endeared himself to many of his former clubs, and this latest move might not see him invited back to Anfield any time soon.

Asked to pick a combined XI from Liverpool and Manchester United for the Premier League website, the ex-England striker risked the wrath of the Anfield faithful by leaving out Reds captain Jordan Henderson.

In fact only three Liverpool players made the cut in his 4-2-3-1 formation: centre-back Martin Skrtel, playmaker Philippe Coutinho (shifted out to the right to accommodate Wayne Rooney) and striker Christian Benteke.

Liverpool fans shouldn’t be too upset though – it’s not the first time Owen has shared an unpopular opinion.

We’ve established that he’s not big on his films.

Yup, he’s still not a cinema fan.

While he mystifyingly doesn’t have much time for nougat either.
