Mathias Pogba has been taken into custody in connection to the ongoing blackmail affair with his brother, Paul.

Le Monde have reported that Mathias turned himself into the police investigating the incident on Wednesday. Three other suspects were also taken into custody relating to the extortion attempt of Pogba.

It comes after Paul had reported to the authorities that his brother had been part of an effort to blackmail him for €13m. The incident came about after Mathias - a former Football League defender - published a video to social media.

Within the video, Mathias Pogba claimed he was going to reveal secrets that would damage his brother's career as well as also mentioning Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé and Paul's agent, Rafaela Pimenta.

Suggestions Mathias Pogba was involved in blackmail saga

Mathias' announcement was followed up by an announcement from Paul and his team, suggesting that his brother was part of a blackmail attempt.

French prosecutors then opened an investigation into the "attempted blackmail by an organised gang" before Mathias tried to shut those claims down with another video on social media.

During various interviews Paul revealed that he had paid been threatened several times and had been trapped by childhood friends and two hooded men armed with assault rifles in an apartment in Paris back in March.

The 2018 World Cup winner assured investigators that he had encountered his blackmailers several times, both in Manchester and in Turin, with Pogba reportedly paying £85,000 to his extortionists in order to buy more time.
