They left it late.

Manchester United needed 29 shots to get past the almost impenetrable Hull defence on Saturday evening.

The late kick-off bore more than a slight resemblance to United’s infamous 2-2 draw with Fulham in 2014, under David Moyes, when the Red Devils fired over 80 crosses into the box.

It was wave after wave of United attack, with big name signings Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba going close on several occasions.

But it was a homegrown lad who came up with the goods as 18-year-old Marcus Rashford came off the bench to ensure Jose Mourinho would leave Yorkshire with three points, rather than frustration.

And as the squared ball was belted home by the youngster, United fans the world over allowed themselves a relieved sigh.
