Manchester United told to up their offer if they wish to purchase Inter Milan’s golden boy

Frustration for LvG

Kevin McGillicuddy

Manchester United fans puzzled by their sides form in recent weeks have also a new conundrum to try and solve.

Their striker Wayne Rooney looked like he was on the way out with his hair plugs between his legs, before a scoring burst that began against Newcastle continued against Liverpool, and he was in brilliant form in last week’s 3-0 whipping of Stoke at Old Trafford.

Perhaps his upswing in fortunes may be down to the rumour that Manchester United had put in serious bid for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi which was rejected for being too miserly.

It seems that the club were looking to smuggle the Argentine away from the Serie A side only to be snubbed by the Nerazzurri for a lack of euros on the cheque.

The Sunday Express understand that Old Trafford chiefs had did indeed bid an initial £23million for the player who has scored eight goals in 19 appearances this term.

However the club were unwilling to sell at that price.

Reports in Italy and Germany both suggest the striker was subject to various bids around that sum, from Manchester United and Wolfsburg, but all clubs interested in Icardi have been told a fee much higher further up the scale will be needed to prise the club captain away from the San Siro.
