Manchester United after German starlet but need to act fast in January

Wow, what a signing this would be

Reuben Pinder

Leon Goretzka has been making headlines ever since he made his Schalke debut in 2013.

It was only a matter of time before Manchester United started snooping around. Sky Sports have reported the Red Devils are interested in the young German, much to the excitement of their fans.

United will likely face tough competition from Bayern Munich as the German champions look to bolster their midfield depth too.

Goretzka’s contract is running down and in the summer of 2018 he will be available to sign on a free transfer and won’t be short of options. United may well have to move for Goretzka in the January transfer window to avoid a major battle, and salary haggle, next summer.

He made his senior debut for Schalke at 18 and has already racked up more than 120 appearances, scoring 17 goals and chipping in with eight assists. So far this season, he has scored four goals in 11 club appearances [eight starts] while he found the net twice in Germany’s Confederations Cup campaign.

The 22-year-old central-midfielder would add more dynamism and creativity to the United midfield and, standing at 6-foot-3, Mourinho will love his physical presence.

He does not panic in scoring situations either:

The player is enjoying an excellent start to the season, having already racked up 4 goals in 10 games from central midfield, helping push Schalke up to third as they become the latest team to attempt to break Bayern’s monopoly of the Bundesliga.
