Manchester United fans think they know why Jose Mourinho finally played Luke Shaw

He has a reputation

Jose Mourinho has developed something of a reputation over the years.

Actually, he’s developed several reputations but the one we’re currently talking about is his tendency to blame almost all unfavourable results on anything other than Jose Mourinho.

If it’s not the referee getting a slating, it’s the opposition manager’s refusal to play exciting football. If the media’s not to blame, it’s the weather.

United drew 1-1 with Everton on Tuesday night which, given the late nature of the equaliser, will be viewed positively by most United supporters.

But any result at Old Trafford other than a home victory is considered points dropped by plenty of fans.

Luke Shaw made his return to action from the bench, after it initially seemed like Mourinho had dealt him the ultimate insult be choosing to play Ander Herrera at left back at the start of the second half.

But Shaw eventually made his way on to the pitch, with United trailing 1-0 thanks to a first-half Phil Jagielka goal.

And while Zlatan Ibrahimovic rescued a point for the home side with a late penalty, which came about from a Shaw attempt at goal that was handled by Ashley Williams, supporters think Mourinho was planning his blame game by sending Shaw on after 65 minutes.
