A Manchester City player has reportedly been arrested in a Madrid nightclub toilets.
Matheus Nunes was reportedly arrested on 8 September in the Spanish capital in the early hours of the morning, being taken to a local police station, however, the incident has only been reported today.
It was reported by Spanish paper El Mundo that the City star was arrested at around 5:30am at La Riviera nightclub after stealing someone's phone.
The City player said that a person was taking pictures of him in the nightclub toilets without permission.
The player is reported to have snatched the phone being used to take the snaps and then refused to return it.
The Brazilian-born Portugal international was handcuffed and brought out of the nightclub.
A spokesman for the National Police in Madrid said: "I can confirm a Portuguese national was arrested in the early hours of September 8 at a Madrid nightclub on suspicion of stealing another person’s mobile phone."
The police force confirmed the man arrested was born in 1998, the same year as Man City midfielder Matheus Nunes, but said it was unable to comment on whether the suspect was the footballer.
A source close to the player said: "This matter will now be resolved by way of a trial in court."
