Manchester United got their season back on track on Thursday night with a convincing 4-0 win against Feyenoord in the Europa League.
Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard were all on the scoresheet, adding to an own goal from former Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Jones, meaning United’s European fate remains in their own hands with one group stage game remaining.
Robbie Savage was on co-commentary duties for the match, and was impressed with what he saw from José Mourinho’s team.
In fact, it made such an impression on the Welsh international that it brought to mind a very memorable European game from yesteryear.
So, what was the fixture in question? United’s demolition of AS Roma back in 2007, perhaps? Or maybe a game that one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squads won against Dutch opposition, like the 2-0 win at Ajax in 2012?

Ah yes, that memorable goalless draw between Feyenoord and Blackburn, which we all definitely remembered happening before Savage brought it up.
That thrill-a-minute goalless draw where Savage’s teammates included Shabani Nonda and Sergio Peter, Blackburn heroes from the past whose names immediately roll off the tongue.
Francis ‘no, really, he played for Blackburn’ Jeffers’ last ever game in a UEFA competition.
