United interested in Tuchel to replace Solskjaer

Manchester United are interested in hiring PSG boss Thomas Tuchel as a replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to reports

Thomas Tuchel is understood to be interested in a potential move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are lining up the German to be their next manager, according to outlet Sport Bild.

Tuchel took over at Paris Saint-Germain in 2018 after Unai Emery’s departure, and has overseen back to back Ligue 1 titles and a run to the Champions League final last season where PSG ultimately fell victim to Bayern Munich.

Tuchel’s PSG were eliminated from the Champions League by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United in 2018/19, but the German currently holds the bragging rights between the two managers after PSG’s 3-1 win at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Despite PSG falling short of expectation in Europe (until last season), Tuchel has shown impressive managerial nouse to accommodate the huge egos in the PSG squad and find a system that meets the demands of his star players and the needs of the team.

And as much as Solskjaer might sometimes pull off a run of good results – they are currently enjoying a run of eight consecutive away league wins thanks to Edinson Cavani’s double last weekend – it’s hard to argue that Tuchel would not be an upgrade on Solskajer.

According to Christian Falk, Tuchel is also interested in going to Manchester. The 47-year-old will have spent three seasons in Paris by the end of this season, at which point it is possible that Kylian Mbappé may move on, and PSG will have to rebuild their squad.

However, if Neymar’s wish comes true and Messi joins the Parisians in the summer, you’d imagine Tuchel might consider staying for another year.

Either way, it seems undeniable that while Solskjaer has, on the whole, done alright, next summer it will be time to upgrade on the Norwegian if Man United are serious about reclaiming their place at the top of English football.

Before PSG, Tuchel managed Borussia Dortmund for two seasons where he won a German Cup and finished second and then third behind Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
