Man United fans slam club for Ajax title tweet

Probably not the best timing from United.

Manchester United supporters have reacted angrily to a now-deleted tweet about incoming manager Erik ten Hag’s title hunt at Ajax.

The Red Devils posted an update on Ajax’s quest to become Eredivisie champions for the 36th time, tweeting about the Dutch outfit’s 2-2 draw away at AZ Alkmaar at the weekend.

Brian Brobbey and Edson Álvarez both got on the scoresheet for Ajax, but Ten Hag’s side were held to a draw at AFAS stadium.

United quickly deleted the post

The post, which included a link to the club’s official website, read: “Erik ten Hag’s side maintained their advantage in a dramatic afternoon in the race for the Eredivisie title”. It has since been deleted following backlash from fans.

Given that the tweet came just two days after United were thrashed 4-0 at Brighton, Red Devils fans were understandably unhappy with the post.

One user wrote: “So the club’s now celebrating Ajax’s success because we have none?”

Another added: “10 years without a league title 15 years without a Champions League 6 years without a single trophy… But @ManUtd admin thought we will be interested in Ajax title chance”.

A third said: “Tacky and shameless. Ajax have their own page, it’s none of our business what’s happening there.”

Another added: “I can not believe the @ManUtd account tweeted about Ajax getting closer to their title.”

Ten Hag will leave Ajax at the end of the season to become United boss, replacing outgoing interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Following the 4-0 battering at the hands of Brighton, the Red Devils can no longer qualify for the Champions League next season.

Brighton end United’s Champions League hopes.

While United are still in the hunt for a Europa League place, West Ham – who sit just one place behind Rangnick’s side – have a game in hand on them and are just three points behind.
