Eat less, exercise more – and that’s how you lose weight.

You’d think professional footballers would not need that advice, but it seems after this weekend, they certainly do.

Mamadou Sakho is facing a worrying few weeks as the France international awaits the results of a Uefa investigation into a failed drugs test.

The former PSG player was dropped by Liverpool for Saturday’s s 2-2 draw with Newcastle when it was confirmed the centre-half had failed a routine drug test after Liverpool’s Europa league clash with Manchester United on March 17.

Speculation suggests the player may have been pinged for his alleged use of ‘fat burning pills’, however The Express newspaper suggests that his issues with weight are not even a new development at Anfield.

The newspaper is alleging that the defender was dropped by Brendan Rodgers at the beginning of the season after returning from the summer break overweight.

It’s been claimed that Sakho missed the games against Bournemouth and Stoke due to his pudginess, and was only handed a first-team appearance in mid-September when he had proven his fitness.

Sakho is likely to face a lengthy ban unless his B sample, which is due to be tested this, week comes back negative from traces of the illegal substance.
