Not the move many were expecting from Suarez.

Luis Suarez is reportedly considering a surprise return to his native Uruguay to sign for the club where he began his career.

Suarez is a free agent after leaving Atletico Madrid in the summer and has been linked with a number of clubs, including Aston Villa and River Plate.

But in surprising developments, the forward has opened up the possibility of making an emotional return to Uruguay to sign for Nacional after holding positive talks with the club.

Suarez linked with return to Nacional in Uruguay.

The Mirror have reported that the 35-year-old held talks with the club’s president, who is trying to convince the legendary forward to make the return.

Suarez played 27 times for the club at senior level, after coming through their youth ranks, scoring 12 times before making the move to the Netherlands with FC Groningen.

After continuing his impressive goalscoring form he would eventually secure a move to Ajax before joining Liverpool in a £22.8m deal, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s best strikers.

Suarez’s goalscoring record is one to be admired

At Liverpool Suarez scored 82 goals in 133 appearances before making the move to Barcelona, where he continued his phenomenal goalscoring form. The 35-year-old would score 194 goals in 281 games for La Blaugrana.

With the World Cup just a matter of months away, the veteran forward wants to ensure he is fit and ready to lead his side in Qatar and regular football at Nacional may be the perfect opportunity.

Borussia Dortmund have also been linked with Suárez’s signature as they contemplate finding a temporary replacement for Sebastian Haller, who was forced to leave the club’s training camp after a testicular tumour was discovered.
