A lot of people thought Arsenal’s substitutes had celebratory chocolate against Manchester United

Even Gary Neville was fooled

Nope, Arsene Wenger’s ban on sweets has not been lifted for special occasions.

A win over the Red Devils is always a joyous event for Arsenal. In the space of three minutes, they secured a memorable home victory over their rivals in the Premier League on Sunday.

Granit Xhaka’s rangey effort on the 54th minute sailed into the net after coming off Ander Herrera’s back and then a few minutes later, Danny Welbeck doubled the advantage and restored everyone’s faith in football by celebrating against his former club.

After such a dire season for Arsenal, this game came as a real highlight for the club. At one point during the live broadcast, it actually looked like the substitutes were savouring the moment by sharing around a bag of Maltesers.

Even Gary Neville posed the question, “Are they passing Maltesers on the bench behind?”

They were passing them around, Gary. However, they weren’t chowing down on the tiny balls of chocolatey, honeycomb goodness.

It turns out that the Arsenal ground staff were just out of shot and they were the ones who were ones enjoying the bag of Maltesers.

Sorry to be the bearers of bad news, but the joke was fun while it lasted.
