Well that’s Steven Caulker paid for.

Liverpool’s transfer committee may not be the brightest men in the world, and are routinely slagged for the less than stellar talents they have dragged through the doors at Anfield over the last number of years.

But if reports today prove to be true, then they have done a bang-up job on managing to extract a few quid from a former Liverpool player, moving in this month’s January transfer window.

Jonjo Shelvey arrived at Liverpool in 2010 and exited the club after a mixed three years, landing at Swansea.

The England midfielder has had a mixed time there recently, and today it was confirmed that the player is off to Newcastle in a deal worth around £12million.

Shelvey joined Swansea for around £5million, so the club at least have made a profit on their investment in the 24-year-old, who looked to have given up totally in last Sunday’s FA Cup loss to Oxford.

Various reports this afternoon suggest that Liverpool are also set to make a nice profit on the midfielder.

Reports suggest the club may have inserted a 30% sell-on clause in his contract as he left Anfield, which by our math, and many others, will have left the club with a tidy £3.6million profit today.
