Intense and aggressive

The sounds are positive coming from Merseyside after Jurgen Klopp’s first proper day as Liverpool manager.

The Reds’ new boss took charge of his first training session at Melwood on Monday as the club’s international contingent returned from their exploits over the last week.

The club’s first game under the German is this weekend’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool fans are looking to see what style the former Borussia Dortmund man will seek to impose on his new side.

According to midfielder Lucas Leiva, speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, there were two key words that were emphasised above anything else at the German’s first training session.

“He seems to be very passionate – he likes to put in everything that he has and he asks the players for the same. Be very intense, be aggressive with yourself, is what he has been saying.

“Always try to be better, always give 10 metres more, because that will be the key to success. That is what he has been saying to us in the last couple of days.

“He seems to be a very open manager and someone that likes to be close to the players, but very straight as well. That’s what I’ve learned from the last couple of days and I think it was a positive way to start.”

The German made his name with Borussia Dortmund and his gegenpress style helped his side win two league titles as well as bring the club to the brink of a Champions League triumph.

Liverpool fans are probably expecting a little bit much to see that style straight away but at least, according to one player, Klopp is going to stick with what he knows best.
