Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have come to an agreement on a British record deal for Florian Wirtz. The total package is £116.5m made up of a £100 m plus £16.5 million in potential add-ons.
The 22-year-old joins fellow ex-Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, who moved to the Reds at the end of May for £29.5m, in making the move to Merseyside as their second summer signing.
The total package surpasses the previous British transfer record set when Moises Caicedo joined Chelsea for £115 million and is a new club record fee, surpassing Darwin Nunez's £85m fee.
Wirtz rejected the likes of Bayern Munich and Man City, who were rumoured to be interested in the German, in favour of joining Arne Slot's men instead.
The 22-year-old was voted the Bundesliga’s Players’ Player of the Season, playing in 31 league matches and scoring 10 goals while assisting 12.
In total Wirtz has scored 57 goals and registered 65 assists in 197 games for Leverkusen, while helping them win the Bundesliga for the first time in 2024.
