Leaked image of Leeds United’s new away kit shows another complete break from tradition

Leeds fans don't seem impressed with the jersey

They no longer play in yellow and blue.

Leaked pictures show that Leeds United’s Kappa away kit for the season ahead will another radical break from their away strips of old. Pictures of the kit are due to be officially released later this week, however, an image has already made its way onto Twitter purporting to show the coming release.

Leeds begin the new season against Stoke on Sunday, under the management of legendary Argentinian manager Marcelo Bielsa, and it appears their away strip will be a variation on last season’s all-black offering – with blue, yellow and white lines thrown into the mix.

For a club with a reputation for playing dirty, Leeds United have always been innovative when it comes to their style.

Their ‘smiley badge’ remains the iconic and defining club crest of the 70s. And – although it is now emblematic of the club – when it was introduced in the 60s, their famous white home kit was another break from their traditional blue and yellow – an act of arrogance as Don Revie looked to make the team the Real Madrid of Yorkshire.

Perhaps in years to come, this away kit will come to be viewed in a similar way, especially if it is the kit that sees the club’s long-awaited return to the Premier League. However, for now, the response from Leeds fans has been less than impressed…
