Leeds United have appointed their new boss and everyone has had the same reaction

Tony Cuddihy

Google has really earned its money today.

Leeds United have appointed Thomas Christiansen as their new manager.

The 44-year-old will be familiar to those of you who might have chosen Cypriot football as their subject of choice on Mastermind – he has managed AEK Larnaca as well as APOEL – but the rest of us haven’t got the faintest, foggiest notion of who he is.

Christiansen actually had a fairly successful playing career; he played twice for Spain (the country of his mother’s birth; Christiansen was born in Denmark) and was the joint top scorer in the Bundesliga in 2002/03.

He’s also rather handsome in a ‘Game of Thrones squire about to meet his death’ kind of way.

However, he’s not ringing any bells for fans of the Championship side, or English football in general.
