League One ref expertly ruins pitch invader’s attempted tackle

He'll be regretting this

Rochdale welcomed Oldham Athletic to Spotland tonight for a League One fixture that held great importance to some people, presumably.

The game ended 0-0, and saw only four shots on target, all of them coming from the hosts. The most exciting moment of the match came when a bored fan decided to run onto the pitch.

This fan, a young male, appeared to have beef with the referee as he charged towards him, seemingly with the intention of taking him out with a slide tackle.

The referee, to his credit, saw this coming and carefully waited for the right moment to move out the way of the oncoming fan. His plan had been scuppered, he lost his balance, slipped and fell to the floor in spectacular fashion.

The fan, who recognised the idiotic mistake he had just made, was then restrained by Oldham Athletic players.

He will no doubt regret his decision to invade the pitch, not only because of how foolish he was made to look but also because he will presumably get some sort of ban from the stadium.

Although in fairness, the game was so dull, on one level you can understand why he wouldn’t to liven it up.
