This doesn’t bode well for Bernd Leno

Just months after signing Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal have reportedly submitted a €16m bid for Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

Navas succeeded Iker Casillas at Real Madrid, spending four seasons as first choice ‘keeper at the Bernabeu after impressing for Costa Rica in the 2014 World Cup, but recently lost his place to Thibaut Courtois, who arrived in the summer from Chelsea.

While he would certainly be an upgrade on Bernd Leno, who looks more and more like the second coming of Loris Karius with every Arsenal defeat, but it would represent incredibly short term thinking from Arsenal if they were to cast him aside after just half a season.

But a move away from Madrid, whether it is to Arsenal or not, looks likely after Navas appeared to bid farewell to Real Madrid fans on Instagram, posting a picture to his story with the caption ‘thank you for everything’.

Spanish newspaper Sport are reporting that AS Roma have also shown interest in the goalkeeper, six months after they sold Alisson to Liverpool and replaced him with Sweden international Robin Olsen.
