Kerry youngster lights up U15s league with Zidane roulette wonder-goal

When Oisin Breen took off, he wasn’t thinking about stopping.

They call him the Iveragh Wizard and with good reason. Every once in a while you witness a goal that takes your breath away and down in the Kingdom this week, they were seeing stars.

The Kerry under-15 schoolboys had just repelled a Limerick attack and were back on the front foot again.

A clever clearing pass left the ball at Oisin Breen’s feet and while his teammates may have been glad to have snuffed out the danger, this attacking midfielder had more on his mind.

With green grass in sight, he knew the only thing to do was to gallop into it. ‘Give him a run,’ roared coaches. No need.

This young buck was still going and the anticipation in Tralee was building. The defence looked to have done their job when guiding the man in possession out wide towards the byline, but the best players pounce when you least expect it.

That’s when Breen, all audacity and skill, worked the most magical of tricks with a perfectly executed Zidane roulette which brought the ball through the defender’s legs to set him up one-on-two.

The covering defender stood tall but with little time to think, Breen instinctively curled one up to the under-side of the cross-bar and into the net.

You wouldn’t see a better solo goal against a team of stick-men. County Kerry is well renowned for its high standards of soccer and this youngster looks like another one for the future.
