Jose Mourinho tells Manchester United to beat Bayern Munich to key summer transfer target

We don’t envy the job facing Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian is joining Bayern Munich this summer, as Pep Guardiola’s replacement, and he will be expected to improve on a team that achieved near perfection.

The former Chelsea boss is likely to target European glory over routine domestic success, but his plans to inject new blood into the Bundesliga side may be halted by an old foe.

James Rodriguez is likely to be one of a number of players leaving Real Madrid this summer, and he has been linked with various clubs across Europe, Munich among them.

However, according to reports in Spain, the move to Germany could be halted if Jose Mourinho gets the Manchester United job.

The Portuguese is still expected to take over at Old Trafford, despite yet another mini-revival of fortunes at Old Trafford in the last week under Louis van Gaal.

Sport are reporting that Rodriguez would be tempted by a move to England, and Ancelotti may be disappointed in his pursuit of the attacker who is seen as along-term replacement for Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben if Manchester United were to get involved.

Mourinho is understood to have already identified a number of attacking players to add to the squad at Old Trafford, with the Colombian top of the list if he were to take over.

Manchester City may also be interested in his services if he were to become available, which could make for a very interesting summer transfer war.
