Jose Mourinho planning return to former club if he’s sacked by United

Jack O'Toole

Jose Mourinho may return to Real Madrid if he’s shown the door by Manchester United.

Mourinho is believed to be on good terms with Madrid president Florentino Perez despite his dismissal from the club in 2013.

The Portuguese managed Madrid for three years and maintained a 71.9% win record at the club, the best win percentage of his career.

Madrid have struggled this season with just seven wins from 14 games and sacked former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui in October and replaced him with Santiago Solari on an interim basis.

Following last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Southampton, Mourinho is under increasing pressure to keep his job with United but is reportedly interested in a return to Madrid should he be relieved of his duties at Old Trafford.

Mourinho’s future has been a subject of constant speculation this season but he insisted in October that his future remained with the Manchester club.

“No. My future is here — I have a contract and until the final of my contract I only think about Manchester United. I am happy to stay here longer than that,” said Mourinho, who is contracted at United until 2020.
