Jose Mourinho forced to leave team bus and walk to Old Trafford for Juventus clash

The Manchester United bus was delayed yet again

Manchester United are really struggling to make it to Old Trafford on time nowadays.

For the second Champions League night running, United have faced delays arriving to their own stadium and Jose Mourinho was forced to take matters into his own hands on Tuesday night.

Mourinho admitted that the traffic became too much for him ahead of this week’s home meeting with Juventus and he decided to walk the remainder of the journey to the Theatre of Dreams.

United had already made the decision to depart from a hotel closer to the ground but it did little to help as it took the team bus 45 minutes to make the short journey to Old Trafford.

Speaking to BT Sport ahead of kick-off, Mourinho said: “We changed the hotel. The hotel is just around the corner but the players are in the bus for 45 minutes.

“I walked with a hoodie in the middle of the fans, they didn’t recognise me. I took two minutes and what it took me to do in two minutes walking, the players took 45 minutes in the bus.

“Juventus are having the same sort of problem. I informed the Uefa delegate because we don’t want to be punished again.”

Earlier this month, Uefa charged United for arriving late for their home clash against Valencia which caused a delay of kick-off.

The issue seemingly stems from a new policy from the Greater Manchester Police which makes them unable to escort the team coach to every home fixture but clubs have been warned well in advance of the games for which they could expect escorts.
