Is anyone really buying Jose Mourinho’s reason for deleting his Instagram account?

It was initially believed that trolls forced him off Instagram

Most top managers know better than to engage in social media.

There is more negativity than praise from football supporters on social media which is why so few managers take part.

There are a few exceptions, however, as the likes of Harry Redknapp, Ronald Koeman and Carlo Ancelotti are regular tweeters.

And, up until last week, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho enjoyed the odd Instagram post.

Mourinho joined the photo and video-sharing social media service when he took up his role at United back in 2016 but supporters noticed that his account had been taken down at the weekend.

Initially, it was suspected that Mourinho had deleted his account after receiving abuse from trolls following his side’s defeat to Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup final, meaning that the Red Devils would finish the season trophyless.

However those close to Mourinho claimed that there was no correlation and that the 55-year-old had actually removed his account last Thursday after becoming “bored” of Instagram, according to Manchester Evening News.

Mourinho would regularly update his Instagram with photos during United’s off time but he seldom spent any time on the app during the season.

While he failed to deliver any silverware in his second season in charge at Old Trafford, Mourinho did manage to guide United to their highest Premier League finish since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
