Jon Walters linked with deadline day move away from Burnley

Jack O'Toole

Burnley forward Jon Walters has been linked with a return to his former club Ipswich Town.

Walters played just three games for Burnley last season after moving from Stoke and he has yet to register an appearance for the Clarets this campaign.

The 34-year-old spent five seasons with Ipswich in the Championship between 2006 and 2011 and scored 32 goals in 146 games for the Blues during his time at Portman Road.

According to the East Anglican Daily Times, discussions regarding the move are ongoing but the deal is expected to be completed prior to Friday’s Championship transfer deadline.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Hurst said that the club were in the market for an experienced player with a physical presence.

“We’re looking at someone who has a physical presence, certainly, and, if possible, someone who has experience alongside that,” Hurst said when asked about his search for a striker.

“But at the same time what you want in an ideal world and what you can actually get don’t always come together. We’ll see if we can make something like that kind of deal happen.”
