Jon Walters’ became just the third Irish international to score a Premier League hat-trick

Jon Walters fired three past a struggling QPR defence today, securing himself in the Premier League records as the third Irish international with a hat-trick to his name.

We’d all be right in guessing that Robbie Keane is one of the three with a Premier League hat-trick to his name. He, in fact, scored a hat-trick of hat-tricks during his time at Spurs.

But when it was put to us that there was another Irish international with three goals under his belt in a Premier League game, we were well and truly Bested. Literally.

Because it is in fact Leon Best who has the other.

The striker, who is currently on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, fired three past a helpless Rob Green back in 2011 when Newcastle beat West Ham 5-0.
