John Terry releases statement on decision to turn down Spartak Moscow

He will not be playing his football in Moscow this season.

John Terry looked destined for a move to Spartak Moscow but he has decided to pull the plug on the deal. The legendary defender underwent a medical with the Russian Premier League side at the weekend and was expected to sign a contract this week but has had a change of heart. Terry also didn't want to spend too much time away from his family and it sounds like that is the reason behind his decision to reject the contract at Spartak. The former Chelsea captain explained that he would not be making the move in a short statement on Instagram on Wednesday afternoon. "After considerable thought, I have decided to decline a contract offer from Spartak Moscow," Terry wrote.

"I would like to take the opportunity to thank Spartak and wish them and their supporters well for the rest of the season. They are an ambitious club and I have been very impressed with their professionalism. But after assessing this move with my family, we've decided this is not the right move for ourselves at this time. Good luck Spartak."
