Embarrassing

It was a very tough Sunday for Manchester United fans.

The Red Devils supporters could only watch on as their manager was bested 1-0 by his former club in the Premier League. Alvaro Morata’s beautiful header saw United fall eight points behind rivals Manchester City who are sitting atop the table.

The result also meant that Chelsea moved into fourth place, just a solitary point behind United. Perhaps more importantly, though, it gave their supporters bragging rights until the next time they meet.

As the game was nearing its end, there was an unforgettable sight that only compounded the misery for United fans.

That’s right, Jesse Lingard, who came on in the 77th minute, got beaten in a sprinting race by referee Anthony Taylor.

Lingard had fresher legs and youth on his side, but he just didn’t have the heart of the man who is 15 years his senior.

It all began when Cesar Azpilicueta played it out to Willian under pressure deep inside his own half. It’s important to know that, at this point, Lingard actually had about a yard of a headstart on the official.

As Willian sped down the byline, both men gave chase.

It wasn’t long before the referee had made up the lost ground and stuck his nose out in front of the professional footballer.

Once the ball neared the halfway line, Taylor had built up quite the lead on the midfielder.

If you look closely, you could see the hope drain from the United man’s eyes as he failed to keep up with the middle-aged man.

Lingard put up a bit of a fight towards the end, but it just wasn’t enough.

Taylor had won the race. Chelsea had won the match. Lingard would win nothing but relentless slagging from everyone who witnessed the moment.

Hate that.
