Some people believed that Humphrey had been sacked by BT Sport

Jake Humphrey has responded to claims that he has been sacked by BT Sport, insisting that he will still be a part of their Premier League coverage this season.

On Tuesday, fellow BT Sport pundit Lynsey Hipgrave announced that she would be leading the broadcaster’s coverage of the top-flight this season, starting with the game between Fulham and Liverpool on Saturday August 6.

In the tweet she said: “After a weekend of dreams coming true for women in football the dreams of a football mad Geordie lass have also come true… I couldn’t be any prouder to be leading @btsport’s Premier League coverage this season. We KO with Fulham v Liverpool on Saturday at 11.30am @btsport 1.”

Hipgrave’s predecessor responded to the comment saying: “You’re going to be amazing Lynsey. So delighted for you. Please just let me back for the odd game.”

The news sparked speculation that BT had decided to part ways with Humphrey but the presenter confirmed that hadn’t been the case and his face would still be seen on our TV screens throughout the course of the year.

In addition to his role as presenter Humphrey also has many side projects, including the ‘High Performance Podcast‘, and given his busy schedule, confirmed he would be taking a backseat role, but not departing entirely.

Yes. Ignore the misleading nonsense headlines. I spoke to BT about being too busy and we agreed I’d host less PL games. I’ll still host some, but one of my favourite people @lynseyhipgrave1 gets to lead the coverage and I couldn’t be happier for her,” he tweeted.

It’s unclear as to whether or not the ex-Formula One presenter will be a part of BT’s coverage of the Champions League for the coming season.
