Irish defender denies Roy Keane is the reason for his international exile

34-year-old calls it quits

Can we call this a retirement statement?

Martin O’Neill announced his 37 man squad for the Georgia and Gibralter Euro 2016 qualifiers on  Tuesday, and there was some surprise that Crystal Palace man Damien Delaney was not in the squad.

The defender was excluded despite the squad not exactly brimming with Premier League experience.

There has been rumours of a fall-out with the Irish management before this week, but the former Cork City defender has today realised a very classy and coherent statement that explains at least from his side why he feels he has not been picked.

It is also pretty much him announcing his international retirement if we’ve read it right.
