Ireland have been handed a huge fitness boost ahead of crunch Austria tie

Positive news from the Ireland camp

Jonathan Walters looks set to be fit for Ireland’s World Cup Qualifier against Austria on Sunday.

Walters sat out Ireland’s open training session on Wednesday and it was raised question marks as to whether he would be fit to start against Austria on Sunday.

However, the official FAI Twitter account shared that the Stoke forward was back in full training on Friday morning.

Ireland are already without Shane Long and Dave McGoldrick with both ruled out through injury so if Walters hadn’t been ruled fit the team would have had to opt for their fourth choice forward.

The 33-year-old captained the side in Seamus Coleman’s absence on Sunday as he helped Ireland beat Uruguay 3-1.

In the match, Walters did score and absolute screamer.

And followed that with a moment to forget in front of goal.

Let’s just hope that he will recreate the goal rather than the miss on Sunday evening.
