Injured Irish midfielder has been selected in the Football League Team of the Season

Well deserved

Alan Judge could certainly do with a pick-me-up and what better than this?

The Brentford midfielder was having the season of his life, playing his way into Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland squad, when his leg was broken in a horror challenge last week.

Judge suffered a double fracture to his right leg when Luke Hyam collided with him in the centre of the park during Brentford’s 3-1 victory at Portman Road.

The injury means that Judge will play no part in his first major tournament for his country, with Ireland’s Euro 2016 campaign getting underway in less than two months.

However, this might bring a smile to his face whilst he recovers from successful surgery as he has been named in the Football League Team of the Season.

The team was revealed on Monday afternoon with players from the Championship, League 1 and League 2 up for consideration.

The Dubliner is the only Irishman to feature in the team and while he’d almost certainly trade the honour for the chance to line out for his country this summer, he will be delighted that his stellar performances for the Bees this season have been recognised by the Football League.

Here’s hoping for a full and speedy recovery.
