LA Galaxy took on PSA Elite in the first round of the tournament last night, which sees MLS teams competing with clubs from the lower leagues. Last year’s MLS champions routed their opponents 6-1, with Robbie Keane scoring a hat-trick while also grabbing an assist.
And given the city where he is based, Keane’s performance was naturally given some special effects.
If only Keane had saved one of those goals for last Saturday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland.
Also in the US Open Cup first round, there was a shock as the New York Cosmos beat NYFC in a penalty shootout, with Raul coming out on top against former national team-mate David Villa in the derby.
