“This is the most satisfaction I’ve had as a manager”
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says that the current Liverpool side is one of the two best teams he has ever faced as a manager.
Guardiola said that only other opponent that compared to Jurgen Klopp’s team was Luis Enrique’s Barcelona, who had a front line of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
“In my career as a manager, I played against incredible sides,” the City manager said speaking to The Telegraph ahead of his side’s 1-0 win over Leicester.
“There are two that were, ‘Wow’. One is Barcelona with Luis Enrique, with Neymar, Messi and Suarez up front. The other is this Liverpool. I think they’re the best two sides I’ve faced as a manager.”
“That’s why, arriving at this stage, two games left with 92 points, after 100 points [last season], is the most satisfaction I’ve had as a manager.”
That number, for City, is now 95 after Vincent Kompany’s stonking winner against Leicester City on Monday night.
It is possible that Liverpool could finish the season with an astronomical 97 points, and still not win the league. The previous record for most points in a season without winning is the 89 point tally claimed by Manchester United when they lost out to Manchester City on goal difference in 2011/12.
Whatever happens next weekend, that record has already been broken, with City and Liverpool having both passed the 90 points mark.
