Like father and son.

Javier Hernandez might’ve put his Manchester United life behind him but he still holds dear the memories and especially the mentoring he got off none other than Alex Ferguson.

Chicharito’s form since joining Bayer Levurkusen has been unprecedented. 14 goals in 18 Bundesliga starts. 5 goals in 6 Champions League games. 4 goals out of 3 cup appearances.

He still looks back at the time Fergie brought him to Manchester though and he still uses that bond even now that the Scotsman has retired.

Manchester United Training And Press Conference

“For me, he’s the best,” Hernandez told Football Focus (airing on Saturday). “He gave me the chance to make my dream come true to play first of all in Europe and then for one of the biggest clubs in all of football history.

“Alex Ferguson is a very important person in my life.

“I keep in touch. Even when we played in the Champions League before the Atletico Madrid game, we texted. I saw him two games before that, we have a lot of contact.

“When I was going to Madrid for the loan, I spoke to him in person. I went to his house and we spoke very well. We keep in contact as good as we can.”

He doesn’t have the same relationship, naturally, with Louis van Gaal who let him leave the club to firstly Real Madrid but then permanently to Germany. But Hernandez is over it.

“Of course it’s disappointing when any person in the world doesn’t give you 100 per cent confidence,” he said. “But I say thank you to him now because he was very honest.”
