Defender Ousmane Viera opened the scoring after 23 minutes while Salomon Kalou killed the game off as a contest in the 90th-minute by converting a penalty he won.
However, the main talking point of the game wasn’t what happened on the pitch, it was the pitch itself. The teams were forced to play out the match on an absolutely saturated field in the Stade Houphouet-Boigny. The rain-sodden turf made for some comically difficult passing, but luckily for the spectators both teams managed to make the match somewhat entertaining.
