The right back was challenging Roma’s Radja Nainggolan for the ball when his right foot got caught in the turf and his tibia appeared to snap.
The 19-year-old Italian was substituted immediately after less than 20 minutes of play in Chievo Verona’s Serie A tie with Roma.
You would imagine that the break would mean a lengthy spell on the sidelines for Mattiello but we wish him the speediest of recoveries.
