Gary Neville urged to “have a little go” at managing Manchester United

That's probably not going to happen

Manchester United should move from one club legend to another, according to Phil Brown.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a terrific job since taking over at his former club last month, winning all seven games since Jose Mourinho was sacked.

Many are backing Solskjaer to earn a permanent contract at Old Trafford and it’s been suggested that a top four finish could see the Norwegian rewarded with a full-time deal at United.

Names like Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane and Laurent Blanc have all been linked with the Red Devils but the club is apparently prioritising the appointment of their first ever director of football before negotiations begin with the next permanent manager.

One of United’s greatest ever players is being encouraged to throw his hat in the ring as Gary Neville has been urged to “have a little go” by former Hull City and Derby County manager Phil Brown.

Brown, who is currently in charge of Indian side Pune City, reckons the job should go to a former player and sees no better candidate than Neville.

“I think the Class of 92 have got to play the next role,” Brown said during a recent radio interview, via Manchester Evening News.

“I’m not talking about the Beckhams or Ryan Giggs, who is already cutting his teeth at international level. I’m saying what about Gary Neville?

“He’s had a little dip in the water with regards to Valencia. It didn’t work for him but it was a big, big challenge for his first job.

“But Gary Neville has a wealth of experience in terms of opinions about management.

“So go on and have a little go at Manchester United! It’s your club – have a go!”
