England 0-0 USA.

England couldn't secure their qualification to the last 16 after they were held to a goalless draw against the USA.

Fresh off the back of a 6-2 thumping of Iran on Monday, the Three Lions looked a shadow of themselves as they failed to create any significant opportunities in the 90 minutes.

The USA had the best chances of the game as Chelsea's Christian Pulisic hit the crossbar in the first half but couldn't capitalise on their chances as the England continue the search for a first competitive win against the US.

England player ratings

Jordan Pickford - 6

A quiet night in between the sticks for England's number one. USA's best chance saw Pulisic hit the bar but besides that, there was very little for Pickford to do.

Kieran Tripper - 5

Steady and reliable as always. Whenever Trippier is on a set piece there is always the hope that a goal may come from the resulting delivery but unfortunately this time round, nothing could suffice.

Harry Maguire - 6

One of England's better performers in an otherwise drab display. Maguire seems to suit international football down to a tee and impressed. His mazy run early in the first half was one of the rare moments that got supporters off their feet. The 29-year-old was also solid at the back and commanded his position well.

John Stones - 5

Was okay at the back. Didn't do anything wrong but equally no real stand out moments.

Luke Shaw - 5

Got forward as always and tried to make things happen but nothing of note came off and didn't have to much trouble with his defensive work.

Declan Rice - 6

Was solid in the middle of the park. Did his usual dirty work of trying to break up play and springboard England in attack, he was much more focused on his defensive abilities as opposed to his bursting runs and exemplary range of passing.

Jude Bellingham - 6

Much quieter than his man-of-the-match performance against Iran on Monday but that was largely down to the hard work of the US midfield.

Mason Mount - 5

Probably England's weakest performer over the course of the two games. Hasn't really set the world alight and struggled to make any sort of impact on the game. Hard working as ever but it feels like in these sorts of games that are difficult to break the opponent down you want someone more creative. If he was fit this would've been the perfect sort of game for James Maddison to come into.

If Southgate is to make any changes for the game against Wales, Mount is one of the more likely candidates to be rotated.

Raheem Sterling - 5

Really quiet from Sterling. Didn't see much of the ball and on the rare occasions he did, didn't look like someone who could take the game by the scruff of the neck like we've seen him do in an England shirt so many times before.

Harry Kane - 5

Saw very little of the ball and as with any striker, if you're not getting the service, you're not going to have a big impact on the game.

Bukayo Saka - 5

A few moments of creative spark which saw him run at defenders and get to the byline to cross the ball, but didn't seem to play with the same sort of freedom he did against Iran.

Substitutes:

Jordan Henderson - 5

Jack Grealish - 6

Marcus Rashford - 5
